What Is Self-Care?

Self-care is anything you do to take care of your own physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Taking care of ourselves has never been more important and in a hectic world filled with pressure and stress, we all deserve downtime and a chance to relax and reflect.

Being kind to ourselves isn’t selfish – it’s self-care – and it doesn’t have to cost the earth, either. If you had a whole day to yourself, what would you do to look after no.1? ALL. THE. FOOD

Did someone say pizza? Throw on a pair of comfy slacks, kick back and order in your favourite takeaway. Pick your all-time favourites for the ultimate comfort snacks and stick on a film or boxset to complete the chilled vibes.

PAMPER ME, PLEASE

Treat your skin to a deep clean and a mask, take an extra-long bath or shower, paint your nails, or splash out on a massage. Skint? Ask a sibling or partner to give you a cheeky foot rub or back massage.

DO NOT DISTURB – GAMER AT WORK

If gaming’s your thing,

set aside time to get lost in COD or whatever your favourite game is. Throw on your headphones and meet up with mates online or play alone and enjoy escaping to another world for an hour or two.

PJS ARE LIFE

Spend the day in pyjamas. That’s it. That’s the tweet.

SORT YOUR SPOTIFY

Jumbled playlists been driving you mad? Have a day of listening to music and sorting your top tracks into playlists. You’ll thank yourself the next time you’re looking for the perfect playlist for a party, trust us!

GET CREATIVE

Paint, colour, upcycle an old piece of furniture, build a huge LEGO project, decorate your room… whatever you choose to do, let your creative juices flow. Being creative allows you to lose yourself in the moment and banishes stressful thoughts and anxieties.

COOK A MEAL

Task yourself with making dinner. Choose your recipe, go shopping for ingredients, banish EVERYONE else from the kitchen (including the cat) and pop on your music before you get started. Ready, steady, COOK!

SUNBATHING

OK, so the weather isn’t quite right for stripping down and lounging on a towel outside, but you can still get a much-needed dose of vitamin D. Sit by a sunny window and enjoy the warmth of the autumn sun on your skin. Don’t sit for too long and be sure to slap on some SPF if it’s extra sunny. Sunburn ain’t fun.

NAP

Take a nap. Whenever you want, wherever you want. Snuggle down, close your eyes and drift off. A nap can boost your energy levels and make you feel more rested and refreshed.
