  • Live longer! Walking for just 15 minutes every day can increase your life expectancy by 3 years.

Ready, Steady, MOTIVATE!

We know that it’s not always easy to get motivated to do the things we know are good for us, especially if an individual is experiencing poor mental health. Your ‘get up and go’ seems to have…. well, got up and completely disappeared. The key is to find a motivator that works for you. For some, this may be a desire to get fitter, lose weight, meet new people or to get out and about more. Another fantastic motivator is to sign up with a charity to be sponsored to walk a certain distance every day/month. Having a target and being accountable helps to spur you on when you least feel like going out for a walk, plus it feels good to be raising money for great causes. What’s more, you can ask family and friends to join you in your journey – having the support of those closest to you can also help spur you on to reach your goals.

There are two fantastic charity walks happening this March:

  1. Walk All Over Cancer – Cancer Research

This March, why not sign up to walk 10,000 steps a day to raise money for Cancer Research? You’ll get a free t-shirt when you sign up to take the challenge! You can track your daily steps with a fitness watch or using a fitness app on your smartphone. To find out how to sign up, click here.

  1. 100 Miles In March – Mind

You can walk, run or jog 100 miles in March to raise money for Mind, the mental health charity! You’ll also get a free t-shirt and a paper mile tracker when you register, plus lots of great motivational advice and tips from their Facebook page. Get signed up here.

Whichever charity you choose to support, we wish you the best of luck! Now it’s time to dust off your trainers, pull on your coat and get ready to walk your way to better mental and physical health and well-being. You’ve got this!
