Do your bit this International Mother Earth Day (April 22nd) to show Mother Nature the love she deserves!

We’re incredibly lucky to live on such a diverse, beautiful planet and we want to keep it that way. By making just a few small changes, you can take action today to help protect our planet and give Mother Nature a helping hand!

5 SIMPLE CHANGES

  1. SAVE THE BEES!

Bees are vitally important to our planet, but their population needs our help. Without bees, our flowers and plants wouldn’t be pollinated and would die. You can help to save the bees by planting a bee garden filled with flowers heavy in nectar and pollen, such as lavender and bluebells. Find more tips here.

TOP TIP – Create a simple bee bath in your garden by filling a shallow bowl with clean water and pebbles. Bees can land on the pebbles to take a refreshing sip before they bumble on their way.

  1. LITTER CREW ASSEMBLE!

Get a bunch of friends together and head to your local park or beach to do a litter pick. Rubbish can be extremely hazardous to plants and wildlife and can trap, hurt or even kill animals. If your friends aren’t keen, you can always go on your own on check social media for local litter-picking groups.

TOP TIP – Be extra careful and aware of tides if you’re near water, and don’t forget to wear gloves to protect your hands. Always avoid medical waste (such as syringes) and report any findings to your local council who will arrange to have it picked up and disposed of safely.

  1. WATER WARRIORS

Do your bit to save water by turning off the tap when brushing your teeth. It’s a simple change you can make right away! You can also help to save water by taking a short shower rather than a bath or using rainwater instead of a hose to water the garden.

TOP TIP – Fill a reusable bottle with water and pop it in the fridge to reduce how many times you pour a glass of water from the tap.

  1. GET ACTIVE!

Walk, run or cycle for short journeys instead of hopping on the bus or jumping in the car. Car sharing is another great way to keep your carbon footprint down and reduce the emissions being released into our environment.

TOP TIP – Download a fitness app or track your steps to motivate you to make good choices. Getting fit and helping to save the planet? It’s a win-win!

  1. BYE, BYE PLASTIC!

Reduce your use of single-use plastic wherever you can. Swap out plastic straws for paper or silicone ones, use a canvas bag instead of plastic throwaway carrier bags when you go shopping and invest in a reusable drinking bottle to carry with you instead of purchasing plastic bottles of juice and water.TOP TIP – A quick and easy swap is to replace your plastic toothbrush with a bamboo one. Clean teeth AND a cleaner planet!
