Level Up!

Five super simple ways to learn new skills!

Why Is It Important To Develop New Skills?

Did you know that learning a new skill can boost your confidence? It helps you learn how to set targets and gives you motivation to achieve those goals. You’ll feel a great sense of achievement when you finally master an instrument or boss a dance routine!

Broadening your skill set also benefits your employability. Exam results aren’t everything – employers love to see skills and hobbies listed on a potential candidate’s CV. So, whether you’re keen to play the ukulele or determined to master karate, here are five ways to maximise your skillset!

Training Courses

If you’re super-busy at school, college or uni, then additional training may seem like the last thing you’d want to sign up to. However, there may be mini courses you fancy getting your teeth into and are able to fit into your busy schedule.

Got a job? There may be additional training courses available at your workplace. These can help you develop your skills and progress in your working life. Talk to your manager to see if there are any courses available.

Volunteer

Giving up your spare time to volunteer with a local charity or organisation not only makes you feel good inside; it also helps you develop key life and work skills. You’ll pick up so many invaluable, transferable skills that will help to set you up for life!

Volunteering can help you with future job prospects – it can open doors to potential paid positions within the organisation, should you want to look for something more permanent down the line. Voluntary experience is also a good addition to your CV as it shows future employers you have a) have good values and b) are dedicated.

Try A New Hobby

Fancy trying something new? Check out your local library or go online to find clubs and groups near you. You might want to try your hand at something arty like pottery or life-drawing classes or something sporty like cricket or tennis. If you can’t find anything local, hop online and check out YouTube where there are thousands of helpful tutorials for every hobby under the sun!

Stepping out of your comfort zone to try something new can feel scary but you’ll experience a wave of self-pride when you overcome your fears and doubts. With every small achievement, you’ll feel your self-confidence grow and grow.

Read To Feed Your Brain

Books can be an excellent source when you’re looking to expand your skillset. You can read about all sorts of subjects and brush up on your knowledge from the comfort of your own bedroom.

You can read many books online for free or borrow them from your local library. Whether you’re keen to learn more about Greek mythology or want to understand the inner workings of a car engine, there’s a book for that.
